BRETON
sweet treats

From crisp shortbread to melting salted caramel, Brittany excels in the art of perfectly crafted indulgences. Discreet yet always appreciated, these gifts are even more special when they come from artisanal houses.

BISCUITS AND CARAMELS: A TRADITION THAT NEVER DISAPPOINTS

Palets, galettes, salted butter caramels… timeless classics we think we know, yet rediscover with every artisan. Around Missillac, several maisons perpetuate this tradition with rare attention to detail: generous AOP butter, locally milled flours and impeccably golden baking.

Among our favourite addresses:

  • Maison Guella – Cancale (35260): pure butter palets, delicate galettes and homemade caramels — perfect additions to any gift box.
  • Maison Brieuc – Workshops across Brittany: generous biscuits, caramels and preserves, ideal for creating a refined gourmet hamper.
  • Biscuiterie de Kerlann – Southern Brittany: traditional Breton galettes and palets, baked on site with salted butter.

As for caramels, they offer that irresistible melt-in-the-mouth texture that Brittany masters like nowhere else. Gifts given without hesitation — a nod to childhood, a guaranteed delight, and a pleasure that always disappears too quickly.

ARTISANAL HONEYS AND PRESERVES: THE ELEGANCE OF SIMPLE PLEASURES

In the rolling landscapes of the Brière Regional Park and surrounding countryside, small apiaries produce delicate honeys: heather, forest, chestnut, and seasonal wildflower varieties. We especially love the local beekeepers around Missillac and the Brière marshes, where refined honeys are sold directly at the farm, often alongside homemade gingerbread. Tucked into a hamper and paired with an artisanal jam or local gingerbread, honey becomes one of those gifts that gently accompany winter mornings.

BUCKWHEAT SPREADS AND MARINE DELICACIES: AUTHENTIC BRITTANY

Less widely known yet irresistibly Breton, savoury spreads have become true essentials.

  • From the land: buckwheat creams, heritage seed preparations, artisanal oils…
  • From the sea: refined fish rillettes, seaweed spreads, or iodine-rich recipes featuring lobster or mackerel.

In Missillac, they are easily found in local delicatessens, from producers and artisans of the Brière Park. Surprising, seductive gifts that invite travel — perfect for festive tables.

BOTTLES
with character

Brittany is far more than cider alone. In recent years, the region has developed a vibrant creative scene around spirits, infusions and limited micro-cuvées.

CIDER: THE REFINED EXPRESSION OF FRUIT

Some producers near Missillac now work like true oenologists: long fermentations, subtle blends, brut nature or extra-brut ciders, numbered bottles… Among our favourites: Les Vergers de Kermao — gastronomic ciders, ideal as gifts or for a refined Christmas aperitif. The result: elegant, expressive cuvées, perfect for sharing.

BRETON WHISKIES AND GINS: BOTTLES THAT SURPRISE

Artisanal distilleries now captivate even the most discerning enthusiasts. A reference address: Distillerie des Menhirs – Plomelin (Finistère): Breton oak-aged whisky, lambig, pommeau and gins with subtle maritime notes. Each bottle tells a story of sea, forest and heathland — gifts for connoisseurs, epicureans and lovers of the unexpected.

LOCAL INFUSIONS AND TEAS: THE ULTIMATE COCOONING GIFT

Hand-harvested from the Breton countryside and gently dried, local infusions have become chic, comforting essentials: wild mint, heather, white flowers, “after-the-storm” blends… To discover from herbalists and producers around Missillac and the Brière, where poetic, perfectly seasonal gift sets are created.

BRITTANY
and its craftsmanship

Few regions place artisans at the heart of their identity as Brittany does. Here, things are made, shaped, woven and sculpted — each piece imbued with soul.

CONTEMPORARY CERAMICS

Southern Brittany is rich with ceramic workshops worth a visit: raw stoneware bowls, plates inspired by Atlantic hues, minimalist vases… Around Missillac, several ceramicists open their studios, particularly in artisan villages such as Gué-Bérard or along the coast. A unique piece instantly becomes a meaningful gift.

NATURAL TEXTILES: LINEN, HEMP AND BRETON FIBRES

With the revival of natural fibres, designers reinterpret Breton classics: elegant throws, scarves, graphic cushions and refined kitchen linens.

Seek them out among creators from the Guérande region and the Pays de Retz, where Breton linen and hemp come back to life in skilled hands. Perfect gifts for lovers of warm, refined interiors.

ILLUSTRATIONS AND POETIC STATIONERY

A new generation of Breton illustrators offers works inspired by the coastline: waves, lighthouses, marshlands and delicate typography. A favourite address: Galerie Alfred – Dinard: fine art prints, posters and watercolours by François Ravard, a Brittany-based illustrator who captures the spirit of tides and shores.

Delicate creations — ideal for thoughtful gifts that slip into an envelope yet never go unnoticed.

THE BEST OF THE SEA
for refined palates

In Brittany, gifting the sea means offering a concentrated essence of sea spray, craftsmanship and precise recipes. Houses that respect fish and elevate simple ingredients into festive delicacies.

SEAFOOD PRESERVES AND GIFT BOXES: CHIC AND TIMELESS

Some Breton canneries have elevated preserves to true gastronomic objects. Vintage sardines, confit tuna, subtly seasoned mackerel — presented in elegant boxes, they make effortless yet always appreciated gifts.

Our reference houses:

  • La Compagnie Bretonne du Poisson – Penmarc’h (Finistère): historic cannery, vintage sardines and refined gift sets.
  • Groix & Nature – Île de Groix: delicate rillettes, fish soups and beautifully designed marine boxes.
  • Les Mouettes d’Arvor – Saint-Guénolé: traditional recipes and festive limited editions.

RILLETTES, SPREADS AND SEAWEED: A SEASIDE APERITIF

Fish rillettes, seaweed tartares, crab or lobster preparations — these products instantly transform an aperitif into a coastal escape.

Must-discover addresses:

  • Bord à Bord – La Trinité-sur-Mer: organic seaweed tartares and rillettes, original and perfectly balanced.
  • Algoplus – Roscoff: edible seaweed, marine condiments and gourmet gift sets inspired by the shoreline.

FLEUR DE SEL AND MARINE CONDIMENTS: THE FINAL TOUCH

A well-chosen Breton salt is a simple yet refined gift, especially when sourced from the salt marshes.

GIFT A STAY
at Domaine de la Bretesche

And for those seeking truly exceptional presents, gifting a stay at Domaine de la Bretesche — nestled in the heart of the Brière Park — is an invitation to pause: the charm of a 15th-century château, an 18-hole golf course, a spa for pure relaxation and, for gourmets, a dinner at the gastronomic restaurant.

A thoughtfully chosen gift — and one that always leaves a lasting memory.

Domaine de la Bretesche, a luxury retreat in the Breton hinterland…

Our 5-star hotel boasts a perfect location for exploring the charms of the region. But before setting out, one is naturally tempted to surrender to the pleasure of simply enjoying the estate… From the moment you pass through its imposing wrought-iron gates, you are struck by the beauty of the surroundings. First, by the omnipresent nature — centuries-old oak forests, expansive lawns, and picturesque groves.

The beauty of the 15th-century château comes next, its reflection shimmering across a vast, tranquil lake. And upon reaching the hotel, one can admire its elegant buildings of pale stone accented with touches of red brick.

Across our 200-hectare estate, visitors are free to choose at their leisure: a detour to the Cinq Mondes & Omnisens Spa (14-metre pool, sauna, herbal tearoom), an 18-hole golf course winding through the grounds between lake and forest, or a bike ride to the ornamental kitchen garden, home to farm animals in the warmer months.

And whenever they wish, our guests can be tempted by an excursion through Brittany, just moments from the hotel.
